Pessimism and driving in the snow

It’s that time of the year when the ice gets thicker and the roads get slicker, so it’s important to drive safely whenever you’re out and about.
First things first, you should never drive while you’re fatigued, so make sure you are in bed by 9PM every night. When you’re tired you die, and that’s a fact.
If you’re tires aren’t properly inflated you will slide all over the road and eventually drive into a ditch, so fill those wheels.
NEVER use radial tires with any other tire. That’s bad. I don’t know why, but it is.
Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze up, so that means you have to have a bunch of money to spend on gas. Get a job or something.
If you can, avoid using your parking brake in the cold, rainy, and snowy weather. I don’t why. That’s just what AAA told me.
Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippy surface. You’ll slip.
Always make sure you look AND steer where you want to go because believe it or not you have to actually use the steering wheel.
Use your seatbelt every time you drive. It is, in fact, the law.
Accelerate and decelerate slowly. It takes longer to slow down on icy roads, and also you’ll slip.
Drive slowly. Slipping is less dangerous when you’re going slow.
Increase your following distance, so when you DO slip you won’t slip into anyone else.
Know your brakes. Ask them about themselves. Take them out to dinner. Know if you have antilock brakes or not. Keep your heel on the floor and use the ball of your foot to apply firm, steady, pressure to the brake.
Don’t stop if you can avoid it. It takes much more inertia to slow a car than to stop it. It’s best to slow down enough to keep rolling until the light changes. That means, you can’t be zooming up to stop light because you’re more likely to slip and slide and whatnot.
Don’t zoom up hills either. You’ll spin out, and that’s not good.
Don’t zoom down hills. You’ll go slippin’ and slidin’ all around.
Don’t stop when going up a hill. It’s even trickier to get moving on a hill than it is on flat road.
If you don’t need to go out urgently, stay home. Bake some cookies or something.
Safe travels!
