This year, Hampton High School is unveiling a new program entitled “Partners in Education”, or “PIE” for short. This program is designed to give students some real work experience within the high school day.
Mr. Halter, the teacher in charge of the program, commented that its goal is to give students authentic community service experiences in addition to work experience. This program is a forerunner to a class will be added to the curriculum next year called “Career Experience”.
The program was inspired by the new college and career readiness programs that have been pushed out in recent years by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Mr. Halter added that he is most excited to provide students with a unique opportunity during the school day, and to hopefully see it grow into something that students get excited about. He hopes that students will gain the responsibility and soft skills necessary for a positive work experience and that also gain something for a college or job application that will stand out.
Currently, news of the program is being spread via announcements and word of mouth, but Mr. Halter intends to have an informational meeting after school one day next week for all those interested.
