Fall Play is Underway
by Hanna Bernett
The Drama Club is preparing for their 2018 fall production of “Don’t Drink the Water”, a play written by Woody Allen in 1966.
Allison Crouch (‘19) and Mia Saltrelli (‘19) are co-directing this year’s fall play.
“We both read this play and fell absolutely in love with the characters, the humor and the plot. It checked all of our boxes and we knew it was perfect,” commented Saltrelli.
The plot of the show is about an American family behind the Iron Curtain, a topic that is unfamiliar to most teenagers. Mia still believes that the show will still be relatable to a high school audience, saying, “I think that Axel and Susan’s romantic plot line is relatable to teenagers.”
Both directors have had previous experience acting in Hampton’s productions, but are now seeing the show develop from another point of view.
On the subject of directing the show, Mia described, “I never realized how rewarding directing would be. I leave every rehearsal with a smile on my face because I’m just amazed by what the actors are putting on stage and how they continue to improve.”
“There have definitely been some bumps along the road with scheduling and whatnot but I am insanely proud of how hard our cast has been working and how hard I know they’ll continue to work,” said Mia. “I’m most excited to see all of the departments come together and be able to look at the production as a whole.”
For the first time ever, this years fall play will feature live music, with seniors Kero Kamel and Tejas Badgujar as the heads of the student pit.
“Everyone should come see this show because it’s hilarious! I guarantee you will laugh the whole time and you’ll get to see your classmates putting up some great comedy,” concludes Saltrelli.
The play runs November 7, 8, and 9. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
