“Where should we eat?”
“I don’t know. All the restaurants on Route 8 are so boring.”
“Should we go to McCandless Crossing?”
“It’s kind of far away, but yes let’s go!”
As students begin travelling farther to go find places to eat, McCandless Crossing seems to be heating up. Restaurants such as Chipotle, Hello Bistro, Longhorn Steakhouse, BJ’s Brewhouse and Bonefish Grill are drawing a lot more attention than any Route 8 restaurants. Growing up in Hampton Township has limited the amount of food that is familiar to us.
The most popular restaurants located on Route 8 are Applebees, Asian Bistro, The North Park Clubhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Primanti’s. These places do not tend to draw the interest of Hampton students anymore. Julia Tush said, “The North Park Clubhouse does not have great service and the lounge food is so much better than the Clubhouse food”. The North Park Clubhouse is known for students going there after Friday night football games, but other than this it is not a majorly popular spot to eat.
However, in McCandless Crossing one of the most well known places to dine is BJ’s Brewhouse. After dining at BJ’s, Julia Tush states, “It’s my favorite because they have a huge variety of food at a decent price. Also, who doesn’t love pizookies!”. They do have amazing desserts unique to their restaurant such as Pizookies!
It was a sad day when Hampton High School students found out that our beloved Wendy’s was being removed from their location. Nevertheless, Allison Park did not disappoint us with what they had coming. The newest addition to our selection of restaurants on Route 8 was opened in the summer of 2017, Primanti Brothers! Many high schools students do enjoy going and getting a delicious sandwich unique to Pittsburgh. Their sandwiches contain french fries and coleslaw! Yum! Also, this offered many more available jobs for high school students.
Although, one of the most highly talked about restaurants is not located in McCandless Crossing or Route 8! It is actually in Wexford; Moe’s Mexican Grill seems to draw a lot of attention from Hampton residents. Moe’s is known for their amazing Mexican food and queso. Also, they tend to have a lot of sales and you sure do get your money’s worth of food! It is an ongoing debate of whether Chipotle or Moe’s is the best option for Mexican food. However, many people say that their food choices are not as similar as they are thought to be, so it might not be accurate to wholeheartedly compare them. These two restaurants may have a rivalry, but they are both excellent places to satisfy your burrito craving!
Next time you are looking for a place to eat keep in mind the amount of options available within thirty minutes of Hampton. Depending on how far you are willing to travel, the food variety is endless! From Moe’s Mexican Grill to Longhorn Steakhouse, we are offered hundreds of food choices.
